Welcome to Penrhyn!

There’s a lot to write about Penrhyn, in the northern Cook Islands, but I’ll start with some photos. We’ll be here for at least another week, maybe longer, as we wait for weather to allow further westward progress.

Penrhyn is pretty remote . . .

It’s aboout 7 miles across from Omoka to Te Tautua

We arrived here on Friday, May 29, dropping the hook at around 2 pm off of Omoka, the western village and entry port on this island of about 140 people. By 3, George, the biosecurity official, had been to the boat, but we were waiting on Customs/Immigration and Public Health. Toku saw our yellow q-flag and stopped by on his way out fishing to say he’d be by with Andrew in the morning.

The sunset that night was the best one we’ve seen probably in a year. Welcome to the Cook Islands!

Sunset over Omoka, May 29, 2026. No editing or AI crap.

By 8 am we were officially cleared into the country, and off we went to the east side village, Te Tuatau.

Jeremy poses with the Cook Islands flag with Andrew (Customs/Immigration) and Toku (public health)

Moon rising over Te Tuatau, May 30, 2026. Again, no editing or AI crap.

Sharks are everywhere.

Here sharky sharky sharky.

Sunsets are brilliant.

Sunset, Penrhyn, June 4, 2026. Nope, still not editing or AI crap.

People are amazing. (no photos yet other than the one of Jeremy with the officials). Instead here’s one of 6 people having dinner on Calypso.

John and Shannon (Carisma), Rick and Michele (In Cahoots), and us . . .

More to come.
